The Royal Cwmtydu Yacht Club (RCYC), with more than 600 years of history, is the oldest and finest maritime institution in the world. It boasts a distinguished list of past and present members and patrons from royalty, the arts, sciences and celebrities.
It is proud to uphold the finest traditions of Great Britain's maritime heritage while at the same time honouring its roots steeped in Welsh history since its founding by non-other than Owain Glyndwr in 1406.
Despite its long and illustrious past the RCYC of today is a flourishing modern haven for the discerning yachtsman and yachtswoman who value the finest of facilities and resources. The RCYC features a host of state-of -the-art services that lift it head and shoulders above any other club.
In order to maintain its extraordinary standards and its exclusivity membership of the RCYC is strictly by invitation only. For those fortunate enough to join the RCYC they can enjoy all the luxurious facilities the club has to offer. This includes 350 berths on floating pontoons, a magnificent clubhouse including a cinema, gymnasium and an a la carte, Michelin 3-star restaurant.
The RCYC is owned and run by the Phillips family who have been associated with the club for over 600 years. The Phillips clan was forced back into Wales by the invading Saxons, where they traditionally claim descent from Tudwal (c.AD 528-564) "of the wounded knee," a descendant of Rhodri Mawr (Big Rodney), first King of Wales. The Phillips’ have been protectors of RCYC's traditions and standards for hundreds of years and are as proud of the club as they are of their Welsh heritage. Their family motto sums up this pride of place - Ducit amor patriae - 'Led by love of country'.
